Nish & I spoke for several months planning out where & when her maternity session would take place. She was hoping for something with a bit of fall color, and she also wanted it to be very lush & green, not the open pine forest with very little undergrowth of some Mt. Lemmon locations.
Being pretty early in the fall season, I knew that the only way to get fall color was to go up high on Mt. Lemmon. I showed her images from a couple of my favorite locations up there, but she wanted something even more lush in undergrowth. I had been dying to try out Bear Wallow as a photo location, so I suggested we head to the Bear Wallow meadow, which having driven past & stopped a couple of times, I knew in certain places it is very full of lush thick green grasses.
It was beautiful & everything I had hoped it would be. There was just a hint of fall color starting to form, and the tall green grasses & undergrowth were very lush & full, just what Nish was looking for! Luckily it was dry for us that weekend, but I could definitely imagine Bear Wallow becoming a muddy bog when saturated with rain water or snow melt.
It was very cold that evening & being early in the season, none of us considered the significant temperature drop that would happen between 2000ft & 8000ft. It was still in the 90’s in the valley, but getting up there we were well into low the 50’s! So as the sun dipped lower throughout the session, we all froze a little bit more & more!
As miserable & unprepared as we were, the images from their session turned out beautifully & you can’t even tell we were all freezing our booties off!
I love how they brought their little doggie with them to the session! So cute!
